As the rest of the country waits for H1N1 vaccinations, Wall Street has cut the line, securing vaccinations for a number of its bankers. According to an NBC report, employees at the New York Stock Exchange, Goldman Sachs, and Citigroup have already been given vaccinations to hand out to workers. The report also noted that Goldman Sachs received as many doses as the Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan. Health blog Taragana notes that a number of other major New York employers, including Columbia University and the Federal Reserve Bank, are also on the list. In response to the news, the Service Employees International Union has launched a campaign demanding that the banks donate their doses to community hospitals.

Why shouldn't the 'most valuable' members of society get the vaccine first? (though i certainly wouldn't want to be among them..just sayin')

LOL. Does that mean the Wall Street employees are guinea pigs?

Apparently so.
The vaccine hasn't been all that much of a big deal over here.

It's not hey? I hardly ever hear anyone talk about vaccinations over here.

This swine flu thing is the first time I have seen Australians panic, and it turned out to be a big nothing. I think sometimes peiople pay too much attention to Americans.

Canadians are into the same panic mode, a health minister in Alberta was fired for allowing the Calgary hockey team and their families to receive the vaccine without lining up at a clinic.
The media has blown everything out of proportion(what's new eh)and every where you go that's all people are talking about.
There are more deaths every year from starvation, you don't see billions being shelled out to end that.
No profit.

There are more deaths every year from the common flu also, but we see no panic there either.

I agree that the panic is ridiculous. The fear comes from the way this particular strain behaves...it likes healthy young people. That in and of itself is pretty scary. Typically there are between 2000-8000 flu deaths a year in Canada. To date HINI has caused 115.

I think you may find it 'likes' young people simply because young people have not built up an immunity as yet.
Only 115 in Canada? That is a very low figure. Is it just that young people make up a large percentage of a small number, hence a smaller number overall.

Young people and healthy people dont have an immunity to any flu, but it dosent usually develop and kill them.
This is a different animal all together. The vaccine has probably prevented much of the spread. As to our young vrs old...Im not sure what they are. Surely not enough to skew the numbers by any significant amount?

They said on the news here that the young peoples immune systems were too good.
More young people die from suicide, drugs and alcohol.
