Hi All
Lefora has a feature that I couldn't find anywhere else. It is the ability to make the group extremely democratic. You can rate posts with a thumbs up or thumbs down. If a post gets enough thumbs down it become hidden.
I think it goes without saying that thumbs down should not be used because someone disagrees with you. There are real time consequences to rating thumbs down so please only do it if you think a post deserves to be hidden.
Thanks everyone and we hope you enjoy Lefora.

Well to me, looking forward to something is not living. Thats living in the future which is not here yet and may or may not happen. In my experience the future rarely pans out the way I think it will. I like to live in the now. Right now its a beautiful fall day and I am out the door in a minute to rake leaves and get fresh air and exercise. Right now I have the chance to "conversate" with you, one of my favorite people, if a bit obscure in the conversatin' arena. And right now, whether theres a god or not has absolutely no bearing on whats for lunch. Right now I have everything I need, and that, my friend, is a reality.

Well thanks for sharing, JYP, but I don't have much use, personally for seeking. I much prefer living.

Well I'm squarely in the middle of the two groups, and my very unqualified opinion is that yes, they are just as bad.
For me it goes to intolerance. They are just as intolerant of theists as theists are of anyone not of their beliefs. And I'm intolerant of intolerance. How can we ever learn to live together if we cannot (or will not) tolerate those who are different from us?
Hi Sambo!
PS, this quote, which I think is germane to the conversation was posted on my facebook page this morning.
"The moment
we want to believe something, we suddenly see all the arguments for it,
and become blind to the arguments against it." George Bernard Shaw
I think it applies equally to both sides.

Beautiful choice Berto, and thank you. It's always a pleasure to 'read' you.

Of course we all think we are right. The problem is that very few agree with us!

Well, so I've been told. However, I still don't know it.

This is a cool thread. I've read 35 of those and tried to read several more but they were not to my taste. My personal favorite, Crime and Punishment. Also, I had no idea I'd read so much Austen.
My mother let us read whatever we wanted, including what might be termed as "trash". But she always kept good books around knowing, I suppose, that when boredom set in we would pick one of them up.

Betty, nice post. I think though, that I disagree. Humans will always write books. If all of the pages of "The Book" suddenly went blank, there would just be another one to take its place. The root, of the problem, it seems to me is the fear of death and the search for meaning. If we raise our children with the knowledge that death is a natural part of life and not to be feared, we might actually get farther than railing against the book. The search for meaning is a bit more difficult. I personally, don't need meaning. Just being alive is enough for me.

Yay is right. I'm so glad you came back. It wouldn't be the same here without you.

Hi Child, well, I find that a lack of belief in anything works much better for me. Even if what you say is true, I am much better off knowing that I don't know. If I thought I did know, then I would be closing myself off from all the things I don't know.

As long as non-christians are buying into the us vs. them propaganda they will be just as bad and just as responsible for the divisions that exist.
Katie, you said that its merely a belief system. Are you telling me that your belief in unconditional love isn't a belief system?

I've just been having a big time playing here and there. I'm not into fighting these days. I am sorry that Sky left, I just love her. Even with her political views.

And just so nobody gets the wrong idea, I will not be returning to a managerial position. I'm gonna hang out and have fun.

Hey Raven! I missed you too. Your outspoken humor is a quality in short supply these days.
